When to Go
On a Solo safari in Tanzania
The best time for a solo safari in Tanzania is during the dry seasons, from June to October and December to February. These months provide optimal wildlife viewing as animals congregate around water sources, making them easier to spot. The weather is also pleasant, with minimal rainfall and comfortable temperatures, ensuring enjoyable game drives and outdoor adventures. Traveling solo during these periods allows for greater flexibility, fewer crowds, and the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in nature. Whether you seek the thrill of the Great Migration or a peaceful, introspective safari experience, this is the perfect time for an unforgettable solo adventure in Tanzania.

The best time for a solo safari in Tanzania is during the dry season, from June to October, when wildlife viewing is at its peak. June marks the start of the Great Migration, as vast herds of wildebeest move toward the northern Serengeti, offering spectacular sights for independent travelers. In July and August, the dramatic river crossings provide thrilling moments for solo adventurers, while Tarangire and Lake Manyara become prime locations for elephant encounters. September offers incredible wildlife action with fewer crowds, perfect for a more peaceful and immersive safari experience.
By October, as the dry season winds down, animals gather around the remaining water sources, making game drives even more rewarding, with fewer tourists and more budget-friendly options. With comfortable weather, stunning landscapes, and unmatched wildlife encounters, the dry season is the ideal time for an unforgettable solo safari in Tanzania.
The wet season, from November to May, offers a unique and rewarding experience for solo travelers on safari in Tanzania. While some areas may become muddy, the landscapes transform into lush, green paradises teeming with life. November brings short rains that rejuvenate the scenery, making it an excellent time for birdwatching as migratory species arrive. December marks the return of the Great Migration to the southern Serengeti, signaling the start of the calving season, where thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles give birth.
January and February are particularly special, as solo travelers can witness newborn animals taking their first steps while predators like lions and cheetahs prowl nearby, creating exhilarating wildlife encounters. The Ngorongoro Crater and Ndutu Plains offer outstanding game viewing with fewer tourists, allowing for a more personal and immersive safari experience. For those seeking solitude, breathtaking scenery, and abundant wildlife, the wet season provides an unforgettable solo safari adventure in Tanzania.
The long rainy season, from March to May, is the least favorable time for a solo safari in Tanzania due to heavy rains, muddy roads, and potential travel disruptions. March marks the transition into the wet season, providing a quieter and more personal safari experience with fewer tourists. The Serengeti and Tarangire remain good options for wildlife viewing, and many lodges offer discounted rates, making it a budget-friendly choice for adventurous solo travelers.
April brings peak rainfall, creating lush green landscapes but also making some roads difficult to navigate. While wildlife viewing is still possible, solo travelers should be prepared for unpredictable weather and occasional downpours. By May, the rains begin to ease, transforming Tanzania into a verdant paradise with incredible wildlife sightings. Parks like the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara remain active with animals, including large elephant herds and the early movements of the Great Migration. While this season presents challenges, it also offers solitude, lower prices, and a uniquely serene safari experience for those willing to embrace the adventure.

Verified Best Guide in Tanzania Booking a trip to Africa can be daunting because there are so many operators to choose from and you are investing your emotions, time and money to plan the trip of a lifetime. I am here to share that you can trust Hussein to exceed ALL expectations, as he is truly the best guide in Tanzania. Hussein will not rest until you have seen everything you came to Africa to experience. He is so enjoyable to be around and incredibly knowledgeable about all things African culture and wildlife. We asked so many questions and learned so much. Our 15 year old daughter LOVES him. He’s so good with kids and family and he knows all the secret spots and when to visit them, so you can often enjoy a private experience. We can’t wait to someday return and we won’t even book our trip unless Hussein is available to guide us. If you have even the smallest desire to visit Tanzania, then don’t hesitate to book your trip with Hussein today. I have traveled to Africa many times for Safari and other adventures. My experiences with Hussein were exceptional and he brought many more experiences in the play. I would never do a safari again without Hussien. My wife and I enjoyed it tremendously. Exceeding our expectations many times over.Posted on Paul R2025-09-09Verified Hussain is the main man Hussain is the main man - I can't say enough about him! He was truly exceptional - an know-all of Serengeti with a photographer's eye and fantastic company throughout our journey. His background as a former ranger gave him incredible knowledge into the Savanna ecosystem and wildlife. What impressed me most was how he captivated my kids, turning every animal encounter into an engaging story rather than a dry - here's this animal and it does that. His storytelling approach made the experience both educational and magical for the whole family. The last 2 days we left 4 kids in Hussain 's vehicle and they loved that experience. Hussain was super patient, friendly and caring to all of them. Our unforgettable safari adventure was absolutely made possible because of Hussain's expertise and wonderful personality. Book him!Posted on Ashish K2025-09-09Verified Guide can make or break your Safari When I got to know Hussain is on to a new adventure I was excited for him. Hussain was our guide during our time in Serengeti. He was the best guide we could have asked for. Apart from being a great human being, he has vast knowledge and tons of stories to tell. From the time we met to the the time we departed it felt like we met an old friend. Our kids loved him and had a great time with him. He kept them engaged and entertainment throughout the Safari. We owe our amazing time in Tanzania to him.Posted on Ashish S2025-09-08Verified Outstanding I cannot rate Hussein highly enough, his knowledge and enthusiasm as well as attention to detail and sense of humour makes any safari even more special. Both on foot and in a vehicle his ability to spot animals is some of the best I have ever seen and I have travelled extensively in Africa. He is very personable and we had deep conversations about culture and wildlife. Would highly recommend travelling with him and his company. He always managed to find the best angle to observe the animals and helped us with incredible photos. We were really looking forward to this trip and it ended up to be the experience of a lifetime. There were so many details and attentions that made this trip different than the others. Hussein is next level !Posted on Iris J2025-09-06Verified Bornwild I traveled to Tanzania with Bornwild in September 2022, guided by Hussein. He was truly exceptional—deeply knowledgeable, attentive, and one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. Thanks to his expertise, I was able to see the Big Five and so much more. This trip was unforgettable, and I will always remember how special he made it. I cannot recommend Bourne Wild and Hussein highly enough.Posted on Tracy R2025-09-05Verified Amazing adventure I’ve been to Africa 8 times in the last 10 years and Hussein is the best local guide I have ever had. So knowledgeable about the animals and the land, the history and the culture. He also spent time every day teaching me Swahili! We sang songs, laughed and really became great friends in such a short time. They don’t come any better than him.Traveling to Africa and going on Safari (especially in Tanzania) is an amazing adventure it’s hard to beat. Making Hussein part of your trip ensures that your experience will be incredible. I couldn’t recommend him more strongly! We will certainly be seeing him again… Hopefully soon. :-)Posted on Matt A2025-09-04Verified Safari of a lifetime with Bornwild Safaris An African safari can be made or broken by your guide, but sometimes you have a guide so special that he makes the safari a once-in-a-lifetime experience. That was our experience with Hussein. My husband and I have been on 10 previous safaris but our time spent in the Serengeti for the calving season was life changing. Hussein was exceptional at putting us in the perfect position to see all the action. We saw births, last breaths and everything in between. The quality of our sighting were some of our best. What made this safari really different was how much we learned about all of the cultures in the Tanzania, the way people live their daily lives and being welcomed to experience a slice of life in the bush. Hussein taught us Swahili every morning as we drove off for the days safari and quizzed us on our vocabulary and we drove back into camp. He opened himself up to us and we did the same in turn. We still WhatsApp weekly to check in with each other. Hussein is an exceptional host and anyone that has the opportunity to see the African bush through his eyes is very fortunate.Posted on Alexa A2025-09-04
